How to Plan a Summer Vacation in Your Renegade® RV
Summer is the perfect time to take out the RV. The weather tends to be the most consistent, which lowers your chance of surprising rainy days. The kids are out of school, which gives you plenty of flexibility for planning travel dates. What better time of year for swimming in a lake and BBQs?
But a great summer vacation doesn’t happen by accident. You need to coordinate reservations at the campsite, the kid’s extracurricular schedules, and more. With a little bit of planning, you can set your trip up for success. We created the following guide to planning an RV vacation below. If your Renegade® RV needs any parts or service before your trip, bring it to Victory Custom Trailers. We proudly serve the entire continental U.S. as well as those in Detroit and Flint, MI.
Pick Your Destination
The first decision to make is where you want to go. Are you checking out a campsite that’s a stone’s throw away? Or are you planning an epic cross-country road trip? If you are traveling for more than one day, you’ll also need to plan a stopping place for each night. You’ll want to book those campsites in advance. If you are traveling with a Renegade® RV, you’ll need spots with plenty of space. No one wants to drive around at the end of the daydreaming of sleep while you bounce from full campsite to full campsite.
Design Your Route
Once you plan out your destinations, plan out your way to get there. Find the most efficient route to give you the most time exploring your destinations. Or take the scenic route to soak up the best natural views and small-town sights. When you plan this route, take into account stopping for meals and attractions. There are plenty of enjoyable places scattered throughout the country so you should have no problem finding places to explore.
Plan a Budget
When you make a budget, it helps you avoid the shock of getting home and realizing you spent way more than you planned. It also helps give you wiggle room to splurge on food or attractions because you know you can afford it. Sure, it’s easy to remember to budget for lodging costs. But many people forget those smaller costs that add up fast.
Remember that you’ll need money for three meals a day for each day of your trip. Eating out will cost more. If you want to save money, do a grocery run and cook some meals in your RV’s kitchen. If you collect souvenirs, you will want to build some room in your budget for these. Gas costs are a big portion of your travel costs too. Other small costs that add up include entertainment costs, emergencies, and propane.
Prepare Your RV
Before your Renegade® RV can handle a long trip, it needs to be running smoothly. If you stored your RV over the winter, you’ll want to de-winterize it and give it a good wash. Test your appliances to make sure they run well. Refill the propane and fuel the generator if needed. Test your lights to make sure none need to be replaced. Check your brakes before hitting the road. If you notice anything off or not working right, bring it in for maintenance.
