Motorhome Summer Camping Tips

Summer is one of the best times to hit the road for a camping adventure in your motorhome. You can explore the wilderness during the day and then return to your camper in the evening to relax and regroup every night. However, there are several factors that you’ll want to consider when you’re planning your trip. It may not be the first thought that comes to mind, but it’s important to think about how you’ll beat the heat in your motorhome this summer.

Get Your Motorhome Ready

The first thing you’ll want to do before you start planning your itinerary is to ensure that your camper is ready. You can begin this process by performing a thorough inspection. Examine the engine, fluids, and tires. Also, check the windows, doors, and seals for leaks. Clean the roof and check the exterior for any signs of damage. If your rig is equipped with an air conditioning unit, you’ll want to take the time to run it before you depart. The goal is to ensure that it’s going to keep you and your family cool when the temperatures start to climb.

Keep It Cool

One of the best methods to keep your motorhome cool is using air conditioning. Most campers will come with a unit, especially newer models. This is the most efficient way to keep it cool and comfortable inside your camper. Some travelers prefer to keep their unit running at all times, but remember that this will use up a lot of energy. Of course, you don’t want to waste that cool air, so make sure all the windows and doors are closed.

Park Strategically

Proper Ventilation

Last but not least, you want to be sure that your motorhome has proper ventilation. Open up the rooftop vents to release hot air from your camper, and install covers on these to keep out dirt and rain. Remember to open all the windows on the side of the camper that’s facing away from the sun and close the windows on the sunnier side. You might want to consider adding some fans for better circulation, too. If you’d like, you can install some attic vents if your motorhome doesn’t have them.
