Must-Have Upgrades for Your Trailer
People purchase trailers because they offer a lot of versatility. No matter what kind of cargo you have, a trailer is an excellent vehicle for those who need to haul stuff daily and those who need it occasionally. By adding aftermarket parts to your trailer, you can increase its usefulness to another level altogether.
Depending on your needs, there will be some upgrades that will seem more essential than others. Think about what you’ll be hauling, how often and under what conditions. We’ve listed some items that can greatly add to the value of your trailer. Spare Tire
This is a good addition to all the vehicles you own, so why not for your trailer? You’ll probably get this along with some newer trailer models upon purchase, but if you don’t, you should invest in one. It’s easier to replace a tire than drive away, get one, and come back, or, worse yet, get the trailer towed.
Lights
You’ll get basic lighting (like braking lights) when you purchase a trailer. However, there are more lights you’ll need if you plan to use your trailer often enough. Once installed, these lights will keep you and other motorists safer because it’ll be easier to see the entirety of your vehicle even in the dark. You can also upgrade to LEDs for brighter, longer-lasting bulbs.
Document Tubes
Whether you’re using your trailer professionally or occasionally, you’ll need to have some documents at hand. This includes paperwork for things like registration, business documents and even maintenance records and charts. If you don’t keep them properly, they’ll get dirty or even fly off. This also makes it easy to access important papers, since they’re all in one place.
D-Rings/Tie Downs
To keep their cargo in place during transportation, some people use the squeeze-it-in method. This isn’t very reliable. The best way to secure the cargo is to tie it down. If your trailer does not already have D-rings or tie-down mechanisms, we highly recommend installing them. We also recommend getting some sturdy ratchet straps to take full advantage of these rings.
Ladder Racks
For those own own an enclosed trailer, there are some unique upgrades just for them. One of these items is a ladder rack. It can be a challenge to fit heavy and long ladder inside your trailer, especially once cargo has been loaded. Adding a rack to the outside of the trailer can clear up room inside of it for other cargo and supplies.
Fuel Fill Doors
If you use your enclosed trailer to transport powersport vehicles, there’s a way you can still access the machines’ fuel tanks and fill up on gas by installing fuel fill doors. All you’ll have to do is open the door and refuel through the wall of the trailer.
Shelving Units
When you don't have a designated place for your tools, you tend to toss them inside the trailer. All this accomplishes is that you’ll have to work hard to find the tool when you need it, or you may simply end up losing it entirely. With shelving units in your trailer, you can easily store and access things whenever required. It’ll also help you free up space on the trailer floor for other, bigger items.
