A stacking car trailer, which is also known as a stacker, is frequently used to haul multiple vehicles, such as cars, powersports vehicles, or motorcycles.  There are a few ownership responsibilities that are very important to follow when using this type of trailer. Here we have listed some tips for maintaining and using a stacker trailer, so read on to learn more.

Lift

The most important component of having a stacker trailer is the lift. Without a fully operational hydraulic system, the lift will not function properly and it will make cargo stacking impossible. Remember to test and maintain the batteries that operate the hydraulic pump for the lift. While these batteries are low maintenance in nature, make sure to keep the connections and battery terminals clean and free of deposits. They need to be regularly charged and we’d recommend installing a charger when purchasing the stacker trailer to keep them fully charged.

Tires

Stacker trailers are generally larger and heavier than your average trailer and usually come with 3 axles. Three axles and 6 tires mean that there are also 6 sets of wheel bearings to maintain. The wheel bearings are another critical part of the trailer that needs to be maintained regularly.

Most manufacturers recommend a wheel bearing service every 6 months or 6,000 miles, or whichever is earlier. Depending on how often your stacker trailer is used, its mileage, and the type of roads that are being driven on, you may need to have the bearings inspected more frequently. Consult your owner's manual for any other requirements by your trailer manufacturer.
