When the weather gets cold and rainy, it’s best to put your powersports toys away until better weather comes along. And when your store your toy hauler for the winter, there are a few steps that you should remember to take care of. Here are some tips to help you get started, so read on to learn more.

Drain the Holding Tanks

Your first step is to drain out the holding tanks on your toy hauler. Your freshwater tank should be first. Head to an approved dump site to empty your grey and black water tanks. Your black water tank needs to be rinsed before you put your camper away for storage, so use your toy hauler’s black tank flush and give the tank a rinse. If you don’t have a black tank flush in your rig, then you’ll need to use a black tank wand and manually spray the sides and top of the tank. After you’ve given the black tank a much-needed rinse, drain your black and grey tanks as you do normally.

Winterize the Plumbing System

Your next step will be to empty out the plumbing in your toy hauler. To do this, find the low-point drains beneath your camper and remove the plug to allow water to flow out. Turning on the pump will push the extra stubborn water out of your pipes. You’ll likely have to unscrew a panel somewhere to get to the water pump, so arm yourself with a screwdriver. When the water is drained out of the pipes, cap off your drains again.

Head back to your water pump and get a water pump conversion kit. This kit is just an inlet hose that clips onto the inlet side of your water pump. Insert the inlet tube into your jug of antifreeze and turn on the water pump. Find the faucet that’s closest to the water pump and open the cold water valve and allow it to run until you see a steady stream of antifreeze. Next, close the cold water tap and open the hot water valve until you get a steady stream of antifreeze again. After this, close the tap and move to the next closest faucet. Repeat the process until you’ve winterized all the faucets. Once this is done, you can turn off your water pump.
